Anna Moffo - 'Una voce poco fa" (A voice a little while ago)


World Voice Day is an annual event taking place on the 16th of April celebrating the phenomenon of the voice. Anna Moffo was an American opera singer, television personality and actress, born to Italian parents. To be specific, she was a 'coloratura soprano', meaning she possessed a high voice of remarkable agility and virtuosity - i.e. the ability to show off with quick runs and impressive pitch leaps. Have a listen to this cavatina from Gioachino Rossini's opera 'Il barbiere di Siviglia' (The Barber of Seville), libretto by Cesaro Sterbini. It is simply phenomenal:

Caterina Assandra

Caterina Assandra was an Italian composer and Benedictine nun born in the province of Pavia. She became famous as an organist and published several works during her lifetime, some of which reached outside the borders of Italy.  Caterina Assandra (c.1590 - after 1618) Image source The local composer Agostino Agazzari influenced Assandra's style.
